It has been a while since we have shared our adventures. They have continued! Two years ago Rhonda went back to teaching in the classroom giving us free summers. This past summer we caught the bike packing bug. Rhonda got a new Salsa Cutthroat just as ‘Rona Lockdown began. We went on a few test day rides, especially east of Boise to Bonneville Point along the Oregon Trail. Then we started adventuring further from home on self supported overnight trips, testing our gear and abilities.
Our first overnight was from our home west and north of Eagle through Pearl, ID then up and over to Montour, ID along the Payette look River. We returned the next day through Horseshoe Bend. Our new tent tested out fine but we realized an upgrade to sleeping bags and pads were needed for future outings.
Later in June we headed to Montana.
We had originally desired to follow some of the Great Divide MTB route but rain and 7” of snow altered our route We stayed low and travelled from Wisdom to Wise River where we celebrated our anniversary before meeting friends the next day 40 miles south near the old mining town of Bannock.
Our last test ride once again started from home. This time we headed east along Lucky Peak and Arrowrock Reservoirs. We camped a little ways up Cottonwood Creek before climbing up 4,000’ towards Thorn Butte before coasting all the down into Idaho City.

All this to say; “ Stay tuned to this blog”. Rhonda retires from teaching this spring. Beginning June 2021, we are planning to use our new skills, gear and bikes to ride across the US. Our plan is to travel along Adventure Cycling’s Northern Tier route from Anacortes, WA 4000 miles to Bar Harbor, ME. We have no agenda as the trip could last anywhere from three to four months. So come back here throughout the winter and I will attempt to keep us updated on our planning and gear selections. And next June, you can follow our adventure as we explore America on two wheels.
Promising Rhonda Adventures far.
