Mt Olympus and the Washington Coast

Climbing Mt Olympus July 26-30 with Andy. Our buddy Al was scheduled to attend but the flu kept him home. Al later joined us for a relaxing time along the WA coast hiking south of South Beach.
We left the Hoh Visitor Center for a 9 mile hike to Olympus Guard Station

The relatively flat hike took us along the Hoh River and rain forest

Camp was set up.

But it was the cool air by the river where we found rest.

The second morning we continued along and then over the Hoh River

Where we started to gain elevation

Cutting a path through a wash out

After setting up camp in Glacier Meadows, we walked towards the Blue glacier lateral moraine.

Our first view of the mountain and our route

We awoke around 4am and made it to the Blue Glacier
an hour or so later just as the sun was hitting the mountain

His heels were killing him.

another beautiful day coming

No, not big foot

Nor an invasion of Zombies

Andy found comfort without boots by sandwiching
his insoles between two pair of socks.

We took the leisurely 5 day option to climb Olympus. We were blessed with great blue bird days and met some new friends, The Mazama Climbing Club.

Afterward we enjoyed a few days on the coast where Al was able to join us.
