The fog rolled in over night. Were we going to be able to see? We came here to ride! After our breakfast we geared up and took off. Any body can ride when the sun shines. Max guaranteed the Sun would come out and sure enough, just as we topped our first climb the sun burned through the thick atmosphere. It turned out to be a perfect day for some more Strade Bianche, the white roads. Julien met us in some very familiar farm country for our morning break. The Trek Travel team has service dialed in. Each rest stop is fully supported and waiting for us. Snacks and beverages to get us to lunch. We had climbed hard to Pienza, a medieval village at the top of another serious climb, where Max treated us to a coffee stop. Apparently we were cruising ahead of schedule. It must be the doppio.
Then it was on to Lucignano D’Asso for a light lunch of chickpeas and a couscous caprese salad. Not too heavy but enough to fuel us on our last section of Strade Bianche.
Then it was the final push up to Capanna where we were lodging and for our last night together. This night was very special starting off with a wine tasting in the heart of Brunello wine country. There are more rules for making Brunello wine than Idaho has for fishing. Very select and very nice. The wine tasting was followed by a four course meal paired with local wines, including the Brunello!
Then we were blessed with the perfect sunset.
Perfect ending to a perfect Tuscany tour. :)
