Hayward, WI

We are cozy in a cabin right now but there is a story to why we are in a cabin now, instead of our tent.
Beautiful day of riding. The morning was cool & comfortable; we ate breakfast in camp before leaving our quiet campground. Once on the road, we made our way to Edgewater for a second breakfast. Today, I had a strawberry rhubarb pancake.
Continuing on, the riding is like a roller coaster compared to Minnesota. The hills roll continuously with beautiful, lush green farms dotted across the countryside. The traffic was light until we got close to Hayward. Which is a happening little town. We visited the local bike shop to see if they had a new rack for Jon’s bike because his broke two days ago. The owners were great & we want to go back tomorrow on our day off. Tim Swift is the owner & has been a pro cyclist along with many other accolades of accomplishments. He gave us a tip to a gravel trail into our campground.
We got all set up at camp, I went for a swim, then we got some marginal dinner at the campground “snack” shack, masquerading as a restaurant. We were back in the campsite when it started to rain. We got under a shelter to wait out the storm. It was a series of two thunderstorms with hail. The amount of rain & hail caused new swimming puddles which swallowed up the areas where we had our tents. Our tent kept everything inside dry! Very impressive! We were planning on doing wash tonight anyway but now some things that were left out were wet & dirty. As we stomped through puddles & holes to get to the office, we chose to upgrade to a cabin for the night. We are snug, warm & in the process of getting stuff dried out. All just part of the adventure!
