Jon’s Birthday Ride

Happy birthday to you Jon! Normally, we ride the amount of miles we are in years for our birthday ride. We have made the vow that when we hit 75 years old we can ride Kilometers after that age. Well, Jon is definitely not aging at all on this ride because he is only 39 today. We had a sweet, short, wind aided, slightly downhill ride today. A great celebration.

Jon doesn’t like to make a big deal about his birthday, but I kind of do! He is a Godly man, who is a friend to so many. He is fun & loves me with a  deep committed love. I had fun with him on today’s adventures.

We started the day early with breakfast in camp & headed on our way to Escanaba. There really isn’t anything between here and there. I needed a bathroom break & my only option was asking some workers in a burned down bar they were refurbishing for a bathroom. They allowed me to use it versus a bush. On down the road to Escanaba, we crossed into Eastern Time & we’re here shortly after 11:00am. We had a Warm Showers set up for tonight, so we took our bikes there & unloaded them to cruise around town. First, was birthday lunch then to Starbucks to get some more Via coffees. I found a place to get a haircut & then we rode to Hereford & Hops to get a birthday beer for Jon. (This place was recommended by friends from Sioux Falls, SD). Jon sent them a picture of him there. A few minutes later the manager came & told him that the beer was paid for by Mark & Karen from Sioux Falls, happy birthday!

We returned back to our host’s home. Mary had gone and purchased chocolate brownie cake & ice cream to have with our amazing home cooked meal. Dan was the chef of a delicious dinner that we promptly  devoured! It was such a wonderful day, topped with a great evening of conversation with Dan & Mary.
