Petoskey State Park

Today was another excellent day on the bikes! So a week ago we checked into a bed and breakfast called Old World Charm which was a wonderful respite for us. Today was what I would call old world charm. We left Mackinaw City without breakfast. The motel said it would provide a grab & go breakfast which we thought would get us down the road an hour or so. When Jon brought it back, all he said was, “you’re going to be disappointed.” It was a tiny, snack size granola bar & a bruised, tasteless apple. We made it 13 miles until we found a Trading Post. Very old world charm. We split a gooey cinnamon roll & Jon got a coffee. Still in search of something better to eat we meandered down the road. The park stretched for miles & it was called Tunnel of Trees. I even forgot that I was hungry. It took us down the shoreline of Lake Michigan to a very cute area called Cross Village. Here we ate a real breakfast at the Old World Cafe. Jon even got real coffee. We both were happy! The owner/server was from Poland and delightful to talk to as we dined on the patio.

We started off and stopped again about 5 miles later in Good Hart at a general store that has seen almost a century, as it was established in 1934. We took another break, I wrote a postcard and mailed it there. We continued through Tunnel of Trees along the shore to Harbor Springs. (My new favorite Michigan town). It was old, charming, pristine and everything was so well kept with gorgeous flowers. I kept stopping to take pictures. The pictures don’t even do it justice. I enjoyed the harbor but the old houses & manicured lawns gathered my attention.

Next we got on a bike path into Petoskey. Miles and time went really fast. We rode into town to check it out & killed some time at a coffee shop called Roast & Toast. We had an excellent sandwich at about 3:00. Now we are waiting for my sister, Laura, her hubby, Dave, and their friend Eli to join us. We are still hungry & can’t wait for them to show up. Hugs, set up camp, then let’s go eat! If they don’t get here soon, we will eat all our saved snacks!!!
